Things are taking shape – but slowly

Heya, dear thaumaniacs,

It was initially my plan to sell my art products in my new online shop in some days. But German tax laws for freelancers and online sellers are kinda complicated, especially when you have to deal with the accounting stuff. I spent my last two weeks almost entirely with reading through endless paragraphs, it makes my head spin.

There is so much to take into account in this country if you want to sell your own creations on the internet when it comes to all the separate taxes for freelancing artists, independent trades and sellers. Every time I stumbled over a new tax-related term it made me wonder if it’s really have to be this confusing, especially for a mortal barely having a living wage like me who just wants to improve his livelihood. Financial accounting consultancies also cost a lot of money…

There is unfortunately no way around if I want to avoid the heavy fines afterwards, so I need a very clear overview about all the potential landmines of the bureaucracy… It frustrated me more than once that apparently nobody from my own network can really help me. It can be a real pain in the ass to deal with all the uncertainty and not having any contacts who know about the specifics. I have to deal with it. It can be tough and frustrating. The freelance art industry itself is a young job market, still too unknown for many agencies and counseling centers. It’s really hard to see my next stepping stone. But there is hope. I stumbled over a site of an association for illustrators and there might be good chance that I can make use of their counseling service for small fee.

I still want to open my shop this month and to do that I need to prepare a lot of stuff. I’ll let you know when I’ve got most of the organizing figured out and am finally ready to showcase my merch to you

Until then, see ya and thank you for your support!
